Revolutionising road transport

Not long ago, it didn’t matter how you got to a destination as long as you got there, neither did it matter how long you took to get there, the transport system was nightmare to many a travelers, from poor roads, over-speeding vehicles, reckless drivers, rude crew members, overloaded vehicles, excess passengers just to mention a few. There was a saying back then that “only drunkards drive straight on our roads” this was because of the numerous potholes that required any sober driver to evade, hence making it impossible to drive straight.

Many investors shied away from the transport sector, the roads did not favor them neither did the employees, most employees were either illiterate or semi literate and all they thought of was enriching themselves. The cut these employees took home for themselves at the end of the day would leave any investor counting his losses. The seats were reserved for the elderly, children and the young youth had to settle for a place in the aisle irrespective of how long your journey was.

Gradually our roads improved, then stepped in the late John Michuki (his soul rest in peace), he brought sanity never before imagined on the Kenyan roads. There was more discipline on the roads, vehicles were fitted with speed governors and safety belts, drivers and conductors were neat and in uniform, traveling was for once bearable.

This move by the then minister for transport attracted would be investors and one by people had the courage to put their money in the transport sector. Then came the game changer, introducing the Modern bus, in May 2008 with a fleet of 6 brand new Scania buses Modern Coast joined the transport sector and has since seen many changes in the transport sector, we were the first bus company to introduce different seat types in the same bus, ranging from the VIP, the 1st class and the business class seats, the 1st to introduce our own online booking portal, the 1st to introduce the E-ticketing, the 1st to have wi~fi installed in a passenger service vehicle, the 1st to have an android application for booking, the 1st to have a tracking system for all parcels sent among other firsts.

Over this 7 year period we introduced the more luxurious Oxygen bus, this bus is fully air conditioned comes fitted with air bags and is as comfortable as a bus can get. With us passengers look forward to the next journey, the travels have become more than just a journey it is an experience to relish, a memory many would want to relive, from our friendly staff, excellent customer care, clean and secure buses, experienced drivers and amazing offers.

The company with the support accorded to us by our loyal clients has since expanded from a fleet of 6 buses to over 5o buses, from 2 destinations to over 30 different destinations, we have expanded beyond the Kenyan borders to the East African region with a presence in Uganda, Tanzania and now Rwanda.   5. Excellent service you give us, we commend you, but very poor security check on persons boarding at msa or nairobi,
    The parcels are not also properly scanned, just the usual assumptions that all is fine.
    At mtito you have very poor surveillance system if at all there is any, which i doubt at night, makes it a potential spot for terrorists,

  6. When are you introducing the oxygen buses beyond just Nairobi-Mombasa. U should introduce at least one from Kampala-Nairobi Kampala-Kigali
    Otherwise thanks for the amazing experience, I opted for a better bus from Kampala-Nairobi then used oxygen to Mombasa….

      • Hi seems this is wrong. I booked online (your system. In the office was down) and definitely I paid more then I would have paid in office. Maybe mpesa fees?
        And I did not like that there was no option to find a new bus (your old buses are somehow very bad and the newer ones are nice) because nobody seems to know which bus will come)

I travelled with your bus from Mombasa to Nakuru yesterday and i am doing that now back again and its nightmare for me.i booked VIP seat no 5 en its cold coz the bus from Busia cant lock some windows. THE gentleman who was at the door was very rude to us ..The bus has me issues because its making wieird sound…I never got water and other services like I got from mombasa…This is too much because its the third time I have had such an expriene with your buses

I love travelling with your buses. to different destination. i had a bad experience when i used it to travel to Kigali in December 2015 left Nairobi on 20th and arrived in Kigali on 21st all my luggage were rained on and wet. Please you need to check you give us good and well maintained buses all my white clothes were stained and the food stuff i had carried were destroyed

  23. AM beginning to hate modern coast owing to this old buses, like now am headed to KSM via a MSA-KAMPALA Bus n trust me, it’s a junk yard, no WiFi no comfort.

    I frequently travel with your buses from Kigali to K’la and back, the service from Kgl is fine but the service from Kampala to Kigali is very dissapointing, waiting for a bus coming from Nairobi to pick up passengers in Kampala is so discouraging, the bus sometimes arrives more than 2 hours late, your staff in the Kampala office at that petrol station on Rubaga Road are very poor service providers and they don’t seem to bother at all and will tell passengers all sorts of lies on how far the bus is e.g it will be here in 30minutes then 1hr then 2hrs, i will please soon hand you back my loyalty card, otherwise your fleet are the best and your drivers are highly professional, and big up to your staff in Kigali office, they will call a customer and inform him/her of any changes unforeseen. Thank You
